Free Admission 1st Monday each month
Harry P. Leu Gardens accepts guests Free on the 1st Monday of Each Month. Every month changes with some flowers in bloom depending on the plantings. A leisurely stroll around the gardens with stops to sit on the many benches to just enjoy the sense of nature’s wilderness. Great for the spirit and body.
Photo Walk
From my trip December 6, 1010 a photo walk around the Gardens as well as the tourist visit to the Holiday Decorated Museum house was fun for my photographer urge to make some clicks. Use the lens as a method to capture the natural beauty and adding a little artistic flair at times made this a very enjoyable afternoon.
Wandering in any Botanical garden around the world is a photographers delight and a great place to practice those shots while enjoying the changing scenery. Each season brings to life new subjects and challenges with both weather and light. Take a trip to a local botanical garden or State Park and take a Photo Walk
Garden Areas
The garden has several specific areas: Citrus Grove, Herb Garden, Butterfly Garden, Vegetable Garden, Rose Garden, Color Garden, Leu House Museum, Palms Cycads Bamboo, Floral Clock, White Garden, Arid Garden, Camellias, Idea Gardens, Tropical Stream Garden, and a Garden house. Sitting in the butterfly garden in the warmer weather is fascinating while watching as the chase each other or go from flower to flower.
Horticulture
Those who study plants and know the names this is an entirely different experience. For people like me who are uneducated in horticulture it is shapes, colors, and beauty to enjoy even without the names. There are educational programs or volunteer opportunities where a person can become more involved and learn in the process.
Sculpture and Art
The garden has many sculpture and welding art. When you first see the worker on the ladder picking fruit from the tree, he looks real, as you get closer you realize it is a statue. The plaque states America, Citrus Worker, 1935. These are fun to come across as they are artfully placed throughout the Garden.
