Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk July 24, 2010 at Celebration, Florida – Alligator

The night before, the morning of the Worldwide Scott Kelby Photowalk , I realized it was going to be very hot and sunny, I sent a message to the leader I would go to the same location later in the day when the sun was setting. Heat. Yes it was hot! Sweat dripping. It was a good break from other duties.

I walked. Looked. I love shooting nature. I love pictures without people. Benches are waiting. Finding pictures without people is a waiting game. They have just passed or are coming into the frame. Sometimes I wait 10 minutes to get the shot I want. I make pictures of serenity. Serenity. Calm. Peace. Quiet. Meditation. Makes one want to be there. Relax. Close your eyes. Dream. Dream big. Visualize your dream. Or just be Quiet. Be a human being instead of a human doing. My pictures invite you into serenity. Although there is chaos in my mind there is serenity in my heart. In my soul. Join me.  Enjoy you. Make it a great Day. I did.

There were people everywhere. There was a fountain.  Kids love to run in and out for fun  getting wet in these play fountains. Photographs with storm clouds are dramatic. Contrasts. Shadows. Lights. Darks. What a great feeling.

Past winners from Survivor, Amazing Race, with multiple reality TV shows represented, were signing autographs at the far end of the lake. People could buy shirts, bandannas, and other souvenirs from the survivor shows. One of the open air restaurants had a DJ spinning some tunes or maybe it was a band playing. Nice night for walking, clicking, and capturing moments in time.

I was trying a new camera, well new to me. I wanted a point and shoot that was easy to always have with you because I miss when I don’t have a camera. The larger cameras are heavy and get left behind all too often. There were plenty of subjects and buildings which are my favorite to shoot if they have unusual architecture.

As the light faded, the lights came on the street lamps. Another world appeared. Being a night owl. The night is fascinating. Colorful with lights. The reflections in the water of the hotel were enhanced with the light from the sky. Walkway lamps sparkled with light. I am loving the reflection in the water. This is awesome.

The movie theater marquee was bright enough for a night picture. It was best from the sidewalk between the trees to give me the contrast of light and dark.

The night brought  families to the fountain to play. Running in and out of the fountain on a hot Saturday summer night. Gosh, it was a pleasant night. It was soothing to see families hanging out at the fountain.

Other types of families came out to the fountain too.

The ducks were perked on the railing watching their children play in the grass below. Ducklings. What a racket too.

It was hard to see the ducklings in the dark but as they moved across the grass on the other side of the railing it became clear where the racket was coming from. Several clicks. Blurry.

The night shot could not capture the movement without being blurry. Time for the flash. I didn’t want to scare them. Make it good the first time. With a click and a flash the moment was captured.

Now earlier in my walk

Spotted was one of the creatures of the lake. As I watched from afar and shot pictures, the alligator came closer. He tried at one point to hide in the lake lilies but it was like peek-a-boo with the alligator in and out. Finally he was about 10 feet from the concrete walkway. I finally captured him close with the new zoom lens of 30x on the Olympus SP-800UZ it was easy to get close without having to be physically close. It is funny. It still scared me. They rassle people and tumble them in the water to drown them. Whenever I look at the larger picture, I have fear inside. No serenity there. Yet, the picture captures the ripples of the water contrasted with the ripples of the skin and one big eye on me. This alligator was maybe two or three feet long yet to me I know they are not playful but watchful for dinner. After all it was after dinner for most of us. Being up on the sidewalk, looking down, I was cautious of the railing. My mind raced. My heart stopped. The click was good. The railing held. Whew!

The end of a beautiful Photowalk. With a promise to myself to do this more often. Just go shoot. Make clicks. Capture the world in moments of time. Serenity.

Participants for the day for the Worldwide Photowalk were 33490 at a total of 1110 groups gathered across the world.

With a great big moon reflecting in the lake, I begin my walk back to my car for the drive home.
