Photo Tips Photo Thursday Washington World War II Monument
Washington DC – Similar techniques as last week. The Washington Monument in the far background with the lamp in the Foreground brings the eye from the lamp of the lamppost to the head of the Monument. Framing a photo pops the focal point with great composition with lines of geometry to surround and enhance your photo. Using a foreground with your background gives a visual sensation to the photo to carry the person and their eye into your photography. Love this photo and how all the elements came together for me.
The illusion is complete for this two dimensional space. This monument is powerful not only in honoring the dead but honoring those who participated and came back. The Serenity of the Water and lines creates a space of peace for healing and comforting. These types of pictures create an emotional space for me to instantly through my mind to be transported to the sights, sounds, and smells of the day.
The architecture and sculpting of the lamp draws me to both the lamp and the Washington Monument in the far background. Love the design of this monument with all the water, columns, and lampposts.
Photowalks are very easy in Washington DC. Experience where you stop to notice things as a child, stop, fascinate, explore, and encourage yourself to see things differently.

For me it is a matter of walking around and looking from multiple angles. Thank you for your kind words. Glad my tips helped. I will be doing more with them each week using my photos as examples and explaining my thought processes. Will even include those that are not stunning to explain what would have helped.

Lovely shot of the memorial. I’m looking forward to seeing the WWII Memorial sometime. I haven’t been to DC in several years.

Cathy, I was close and had spent so much time in DC for business that I did not appreciate it all until years later when I went back. It was great to go 15 years later. Thank you for commenting
